Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB), securing at least 50% aggregate marks (relaxed for reserved categories at many institutes), and be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year, with no upper age limit at most colleges. A medical fitness certificate is required at the time of admission. Some states and institutes also require English as a compulsory subject in Class 12.
NEET-UG Route vs State Merit Route
NEET-UG Route
Mandatory for central institutes — AIIMS Nursing, JIPMER and other central government colleges use your NEET-UG score for BSc Nursing admission, with a separate nursing-specific counselling process on the AIIMS Nursing portal.
State Merit Route
Most state government and private nursing colleges do not require NEET — admission is based on your 10+2 PCB + English marks (often normalised to a common scale), via each state's own nursing selection committee, or through college-specific entrance tests.
