NEET PG Exam Fee vs MCC Counselling Deposit — Do Not Confuse Them

Candidates often confuse the NEET PG exam application fee (paid once, to NBEMS, when filling the exam form) with the MCC counselling registration fee and security deposit (paid separately, after qualifying, when registering for All India Quota counselling at mcc.nic.in). Both are non-negotiable and required — missing either deadline can cost you a counselling round. State-quota counselling (the other 50% of seats) has its own, separate registration fee charged by each state's counselling authority.

Step 1

NEET PG 2026 Exam Application Fee

CategoryFee Amount
General / OBC / EWS₹3,500
SC / ST / PwD₹2,500

Paid once to NBEMS while filling the NEET PG application form. This fee is non-refundable regardless of your result.

Step 2

MCC Counselling Registration Fee & Security Deposit

Seat TypeCategorySecurity Deposit (Refundable)
Government Medical CollegeUnreserved~₹10,000
Government Medical CollegeReserved (SC/ST/OBC)~₹5,000
Deemed / Central / Private CollegeAll categories~₹2,00,000+ (varies by institute)
Note: The security deposit is refunded if you do not get a seat, or after you join and complete document verification. If you get a seat and fail to join without a valid reason, the deposit is typically forfeited — always confirm current-year exact amounts on mcc.nic.in before paying.
State Quota

State Counselling Fees Are Separate

50% of government PG seats and 100% of state private-college PG seats go through your home state's own counselling authority — not MCC. Each state charges its own registration fee and security deposit, separate from the NEET exam fee and the MCC/AIQ deposit above. If you are applying for both AIQ and your state quota, budget for both fee sets and both deposits.

FAQ

NEET PG Registration Fees — Frequently Asked Questions

No. The ₹3,500 (General/OBC/EWS) or ₹2,500 (SC/ST/PwD) exam application fee is non-refundable regardless of your NEET PG result.
Deemed and private colleges charge a much larger refundable deposit (commonly ₹2 lakh or more) to discourage candidates from blocking a seat and later withdrawing, since these institutions have far fewer seats and higher per-seat cost exposure than government colleges.
No — the deposit paid at initial MCC registration typically covers all rounds you participate in during that counselling cycle, unless MCC guidelines specify otherwise for a particular year.
No, they are separate. Each state runs its own PG counselling with its own registration fee and deposit structure, distinct from the MCC/AIQ process.
After qualifying NEET PG and completing MCC registration for All India Quota counselling — before choice filling opens, as instructed on the mcc.nic.in portal for that counselling cycle.
