DNB/CPS (NBEMS)

The National Medical Commission (NMC) finalises the MD/MS/PG-Diploma seat matrix for the year, and the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) separately publishes DNB/CPS seats. Both counselling streams accept the same NEET PG score, but DNB seats are counted and allotted on a different portal (NBEMS/CET) alongside MCC for some categories.

Course Type Breakdown

Figures are approximate, compiled from published NMC/NBEMS seat-matrix aggregator data for the 2025-26 cycle and vary slightly year to year as new colleges receive approval. Always confirm the exact current-year seat matrix on mcc.nic.in or nbe.edu.in before finalising your counselling strategy.

Quota Split

How the 50% AIQ / 50% State Quota Split Works

MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) administers 50% of government college seats as All India Quota, open to candidates from any state, plus 100% of deemed and central university seats. The remaining 50% of government seats, plus all state private-college PG seats, go through each state's own counselling authority — meaning your actual seat chances depend on both your NEET PG rank and which quota (AIQ vs your home state) you are competing in.

FAQ

NEET PG Seats in India — Frequently Asked Questions

Approximately 52,000+ MD/MS/PG-Diploma seats through NMC-regulated colleges, plus roughly 14,000+ DNB/CPS seats counted separately by NBEMS — over 85,000 total PG medical seats when combined.
Yes. DNB (Diplomate of National Board) and CPS seats are administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), a parallel PG qualification pathway with its own seat matrix and, for some categories, its own counselling process.
MD covers medicine-based specialities (General Medicine, Pediatrics, Radiology, etc.), MS covers surgery-based specialities (General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, etc.), and PG Diploma is a shorter, increasingly rare qualification in select specialities at fewer institutes.
Roughly 29,596 government seats and 27,907 private-college seats for the 2026 cycle, plus about 7,000 deemed-university seats — figures vary slightly year to year as new colleges get NMC approval.
Not necessarily — seat count and competition level are different things. Popular specialities and top-ranked government colleges remain highly competitive even as total seat count grows, since the number of NEET PG qualified candidates also grows each year.
