NEET PG Counseling 2026 Process — Step by Step

A complete roadmap from NEET PG result to PG medical college reporting

1

NEET PG Result & Score Download

After NEET PG 2026 result is declared on natboard.edu.in, download your scorecard. Note your All India Rank (AIR), percentile, category rank, and state rank — all are relevant for counseling strategy.

Save multiple copies — physical + digital
2

MCC AIQ PG Counseling Registration

Register on mcc.nic.in for 50% AIQ seats in government colleges, AIIMS PG, JIPMER PG, central universities, and all deemed/private university seats. Pay registration fee (₹1,000 General / ₹500 SC/ST) and security deposit.

AIQ covers 50% of govt PG seats — high-value for good rankers
3

State PG Counseling Registration

Register on your home state's counseling portal for 50% state quota government seats and all private PG medical college seats within the state. Check if your state allows simultaneous MCC and state participation.

State quota often has better speciality options for mid-range ranks
4

Speciality & College Research

Based on your NEET PG rank, research which specialities are achievable in government vs private vs deemed colleges. Analyze 3-year closing rank trends for your target specialities. Consider factors: college reputation, faculty, infrastructure, bond obligations, fees.

Our experts provide speciality-wise closing rank analysis for your rank
5

Choice Filling & Locking

Log into MCC/state portal and fill colleges and specialities in order of priority. For NEET PG, you are choosing BOTH the college AND the speciality/course. Fill maximum choices — include both dream (aspirational) and safe (backup) options. Lock choices before the deadline.

Fill Diploma courses as safety backup — lower cutoff, good career options
6

Seat Allotment Result

Seat allotment results are published on MCC/state counseling portals. Login and check your allotted college and speciality. Carefully evaluate the allotment — consider speciality, college quality, bond, and fees before accepting.

Check allotment on both MCC and state portals if registered for both
7

Seat Acceptance — Float / Freeze / Slide

Freeze: Accept seat, don't participate in further rounds. Float: Accept current seat but upgrade in next round (current seat retained as backup). Slide: Upgrade within same college. Float is usually best if a better speciality might be available in next round.

8

Document Verification & College Reporting

Report to the allotted college within the reporting deadline with all original documents. College conducts document verification and completes admission formalities. Sign any bond agreements if applicable. Receive joining letter and begin your PG course.

9

Mop-Up Round & Stray Vacancy Round

After Rounds 1 & 2, Mop-Up fills remaining vacant seats. Excellent for candidates who missed earlier rounds or want to upgrade. Diploma seats frequently available in Mop-Up. Stray Vacancy round follows for state quota remaining seats.

Many candidates get MD Radiology/Dermatology in Mop-Up via upgrade

What PG Doctors Say About Our Counseling Guidance

Real experiences from doctors who trusted us for NEET PG Counseling

My NEET PG rank was 8,500 and I desperately wanted MD Radiology. The team showed me government colleges where Radiology closed at ranks above 9,000 in previous years and advised me to Float in Round 1. I upgraded to MD Radiology in Mop-Up round. Incredible strategy!

I was confused between MD Pediatrics in a government college with a bond and MS Surgery in a private college. The counselors explained the bond conditions clearly and helped me make the right decision. Got MS General Surgery at Grant Medical College Mumbai.

K
Dr. Karthik Reddy

I had a moderate NEET PG rank and was targeting MD Dermatology. The team built a list of 60+ choices including Diploma in Dermatology as backup. I got MD DVD at a private deemed university in Round 2. Without their data-driven choice filling I would have missed it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About NEET PG Counseling 2026

Answers to the most searched questions about NEET PG Counseling for MD, MS, DNB, and Diploma admissions

NEET PG Counseling 2026 is the official seat-allotment process for MD, MS, DNB, and PG Diploma postgraduate medical courses in India, conducted on the basis of NEET-PG 2026 scores. It is conducted at two levels: MCC for 50% AIQ government seats and all central/deemed institutions, and state authorities for 50% state quota government seats plus all private PG medical college seats.
NEET PG Counseling 2026 is conducted by: (1) MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) at mcc.nic.in — for 50% AIQ seats in government colleges, AIIMS PG (all 20 campuses), JIPMER PG, central universities, and all deemed/private universities. (2) State medical counseling bodies — for 50% state quota government PG seats and all private PG medical college seats in respective states.
Eligibility: (1) Qualified NEET-PG 2026 with minimum qualifying percentile (50th General; 40th SC/ST/OBC). (2) MBBS degree from NMC/MCI-recognized institution. (3) Completed 1-year Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship (CRRI) before the MCC cutoff date for that round. (4) Valid MCI/NMC/State Medical Council registration. No upper age limit.
50% All India Quota in NEET PG means 50% of PG medical seats in all government medical colleges are filled through MCC counseling on an all-India basis. Any NEET PG qualified MBBS doctor from any state can compete for these seats based on NEET PG rank. This is significantly higher than NEET UG (which is 15% AIQ), making MCC NEET PG counseling highly important for good rankers.
Required documents: NEET PG 2026 Scorecard, NEET PG Admit Card, MBBS Degree/Provisional Certificate, MBBS Marksheets (all years), Internship Completion Certificate (CRRI), MCI/NMC/State Council Registration Certificate, 10th Certificate (DOB proof), Domicile/Residence Certificate (state quota), Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS if applicable), Aadhaar Card, and Passport Size Photographs.
MD (Doctor of Medicine): 3-year PG degree in non-surgical specialities — Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Radiology, Dermatology, Anesthesia, Pathology, etc. MS (Master of Surgery): 3-year PG degree in surgical specialities — General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, OBG. DNB: 3-year hospital-based PG degree awarded by NBE, equivalent to MD/MS. Diploma: 2-year PG diploma — DOMS, DDVL, DA — lower competition, faster completion.
Most competitive (highest cutoff ranks): MD Radiology (DR) — top 500-1000 for government AIQ. MD Dermatology (DVD) — top 300-800. MD Ophthalmology — top 2000-4000. MD General Medicine — top 2000-5000. MS Orthopedics — top 5000-10000. Less competitive: MD Community Medicine, MD Forensic Medicine, MD Microbiology, Diploma courses — suitable for mid-to-lower ranks.
Float: Accept the allotted seat and participate in the next round for a potential upgrade; your current seat is held as backup. Freeze: Accept the seat permanently and do not participate in further rounds. Slide: Participate in next round but only for an upgrade within the same college (different speciality or category). For most PG candidates, Float is the best strategy to balance safety with an upgrade opportunity.
The Mop-Up Round is conducted by MCC after Rounds 1 and 2 to fill vacant PG medical seats. Candidates not allotted in previous rounds or those wishing to upgrade can participate. Mop-Up is highly valuable for PG candidates — many premium speciality seats (including coveted ones like Radiology and Dermatology at some colleges) appear in Mop-Up as top rankers upgrade to better institutions.
DNB (Diplomate of National Board) is a 3-year postgraduate medical degree awarded by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). It is equivalent to MD/MS and recognized by NMC. DNB training is hospital-based (not just medical college-based), across 3,000+ NBE-accredited hospitals. NBE conducts separate DNB centralized counseling (CPS rounds) based on NEET PG scores. DNB is an excellent alternative, especially for those with mid-range ranks.
Yes, you can register for both MCC AIQ counseling and state counseling simultaneously. Strategy matters: If you get a good speciality in AIQ Round 1, you may not need state counseling. If AIQ allotment is unsatisfactory, state counseling provides another option. Some states restrict participation in state counseling after accepting AIQ government seat. Our experts guide you on state-specific parallel participation rules.
MCC NEET PG AIQ registration: General/OBC — ₹1,000; SC/ST/PWD — ₹500. Security deposit: ₹10,000 General/OBC (refundable), ₹5,000 SC/ST (refundable). For deemed/private university counseling: ₹5,000 registration + ₹2,00,000 security deposit (refundable). State counseling fees vary — typically ₹1,000–₹3,000. Verify on official portals before paying.
Many state governments impose bond/service obligations on PG doctors admitted to government colleges — requiring them to serve in government/rural areas for 1-3 years post-PG. Bond amounts range from ₹10 lakhs to ₹1 crore. If the doctor leaves government service early, they must pay the bond amount. Bond conditions vary by state and sometimes by speciality. Our counselors provide complete bond condition information for each state before you accept a seat.
For MCC AIQ: Visit mcc.nic.in → PG Counseling section → New Registration → Enter NEET PG roll number → Fill academic details → Upload MBBS documents and internship certificate → Pay fee → Complete choice filling → Lock choices. For state quota: Visit respective state portal → follow similar registration steps. Our team provides step-by-step support through every stage of registration and choice filling.
NEET PG 2026 total PG seats: Government college MD/MS/Diploma — ~22,000 seats; Private medical colleges — ~18,000 seats; Deemed universities — ~8,000 seats; DNB via NBE — ~15,000+ seats across accredited hospitals. Speciality distribution varies. Popular specialities (Radiology, Dermatology) have fewer seats and higher competition. Community Medicine, Forensic, and Microbiology have more seats and lower competition.
MCC NEET PG AIQ counseling covers: All government medical colleges (50% of PG seats), All 20 AIIMS (PG programs), JIPMER Puducherry PG, AFMC Pune PG, Central universities (BHU, AMU, DU), and all deemed/private universities (100% seats). This covers approximately 50,000+ PG medical seats across India. Government college AIQ seats are the most competitive and sought-after in NEET PG counseling.
