NEET UG Counseling 2026 Process — Step by Step

Follow this structured guide to navigate NEET UG Counseling 2026 successfully

1

NEET UG Result & Score Download

After NEET-UG 2026 result is declared, download your scorecard from nta.ac.in. Note your All India Rank (AIR), state rank, and category rank — all three are important for counseling strategy.

Keep 5+ copies of scorecard for document submission
2

MCC AIQ Counseling Registration

Register on mcc.nic.in for All India Quota counseling. Pay registration fee (₹1,000 General / ₹500 SC/ST) and security deposit (₹10,000–₹2,00,000). This covers AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, central & deemed universities, and 15% AIQ seats in government colleges.

Register even if aiming for state quota — AIQ runs simultaneously
3

State Counseling Registration

Register on your home state's medical counseling portal for 85% state quota seats in government colleges and all private college seats. Each state has its own portal, schedule, and fee structure. Domicile and category documents must be ready.

Check if your state allows simultaneous MCC + state participation
4

Choice Filling & Locking

This is the most critical step. Fill your preferred colleges and courses in order of priority. Use previous year closing ranks, college rankings, location, fees, and infrastructure to build your choice list. Lock choices before the deadline — after locking, no changes are allowed.

Fill 30–50+ college choices. More choices = better chances
5

Seat Allotment Result

The counseling authority publishes seat allotment results based on your NEET rank, choices, and seat availability. Login to check your allotted seat. Carefully review the allotted college, course, and category before deciding to accept.

Check allotment on both MCC and state portals
6

Seat Acceptance & Fee Payment

If satisfied with allotted seat, accept it online and pay the first-year fees within the deadline. If you want to upgrade in next round, choose "Float" or "Slide" option. If not satisfied, choose "Freeze" and wait for next round.

Understand Float vs Freeze vs Slide options carefully
7

Document Verification at College

After accepting the seat, report to the allotted college for original document verification within the deadline. Carry all original documents plus self-attested photocopies. Verification failure means cancellation of admission.

8

Mop-Up Round & Stray Vacancy Round

If you didn't get a seat in Round 1 & 2, or want to upgrade, participate in Mop-Up round. This covers vacant seats after regular rounds. Stray Vacancy round (for state quota) follows if seats still remain. These rounds often offer better college options.

Many top colleges get seats in Mop-Up due to candidate upgrades

Round 1

MCC Round 1 + State Round 1

First set of seat allotments across AIQ and state quota. Most popular colleges fill up in Round 1. Essential to participate even if rank is borderline.

Round 2

MCC Round 2 + State Round 2

Candidates who got a seat in Round 1 can upgrade, and new seats open from upgrades. Often better outcomes than Round 1 for mid-range ranks.

Mop-Up Round

MCC Mop-Up + State Mop-Up

Fills vacant seats after regular rounds. Candidates not allotted earlier or wishing to upgrade can participate. Many top college seats appear here.

Stray Vacancy

Stray Vacancy Round (State)

Final round conducted by state counseling for any remaining unfilled seats in state quota. College-level reporting is done directly.

AIIMS Round

AIIMS MBBS Counseling

All 20 AIIMS conduct centralized counseling via MCC. Highly competitive — top 0.1% NEET ranks. Separate preference list for AIIMS.

Management/NRI

Management & NRI Quota

After state counseling, private colleges fill remaining Management and NRI quota seats. Lower NEET rank accepted. Higher fees apply.

Frequently Asked Questions About NEET UG Counseling 2026

Answers to the most searched questions about NEET UG Counseling process, schedule, and strategy

NEET UG Counseling 2026 is the official seat-allotment process for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, and BVSc & AH courses in India based on NEET-UG scores. It is conducted at two levels: MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) for All India Quota and central institutions (AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, deemed universities), and respective state authorities for state quota seats.
NEET UG Counseling 2026 is conducted at two levels: (1) MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) conducts AIQ counseling for 15% AIQ seats in government colleges and all central institution seats — register at mcc.nic.in. (2) State medical/dental counseling bodies conduct state quota counseling for 85% state quota seats — register on the respective state portal.
NEET UG Counseling 2026 typically begins in August-September after NEET-UG results. Round 1 starts in August, Round 2 in September, Mop-Up round in October, and Stray Vacancy in November. Exact dates are announced by MCC on mcc.nic.in after NEET results. We provide real-time schedule alerts — contact us to stay updated.
All India Quota (AIQ) refers to 15% of MBBS/BDS seats in government medical and dental colleges that are filled through MCC counseling on an all-India basis. Students from any state can compete for AIQ seats based on NEET rank, regardless of their home state. AIQ counseling also covers all seats in AIIMS (20 campuses), JIPMER, AFMC, central and deemed universities.
Required documents: NEET-UG 2026 Scorecard, NEET-UG Admit Card, 10th Marksheet & Certificate, 12th Marksheet & Certificate (PCB), Transfer Certificate, Domicile/Residence Certificate (for state quota), Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS if applicable), PWD Certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar Card, and Passport Size Photographs.
During choice filling, you log into the MCC or state counseling portal and select preferred colleges and courses in order of priority. You can add, edit, and reorder choices before the lock deadline. Once locked, no changes are allowed. The system then allots seats based on your NEET rank, choice order, and seat availability. Fill as many choices as possible (30-50+) for the best outcome.
MCC AIQ counseling covers: 15% AIQ seats in government colleges + all AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, central & deemed universities. State counseling covers: 85% state quota seats in government colleges + all private medical college seats within the state. You can participate in both simultaneously. Strategy tip: Register for both MCC and your state counseling portal on the same day.
These are seat-acceptance options: Freeze — accept the allotted seat and do not participate in further rounds. Float — accept the current seat but try to upgrade to a better college in the next round; your current seat is retained as a backup. Slide — participate in next round but only within the same college (for course/category upgrade). Float is generally the best option for students who want a safety net while trying to upgrade.
The Mop-Up round is conducted after Rounds 1 and 2 to fill vacant seats. It is open to candidates not allotted a seat or those who want to upgrade. Many top-ranked government college seats appear in Mop-Up due to candidates upgrading. A Stray Vacancy Round may follow for any remaining seats. Our experts help identify best opportunities in Mop-Up based on your rank.
Yes, you can participate in both MCC AIQ counseling and state quota counseling simultaneously. However, check your state-specific rules — some states do not allow participation in state counseling if you have accepted a seat in AIQ counseling and reported to the college. Our advisors will guide you on the best strategy for your specific state.
NEET UG cutoff varies by college type and category. AIIMS New Delhi: Top 50 AIR (General). Government colleges: 500–700+ marks for top colleges; 350–500 marks for mid-range. Private colleges: 200–400 marks (management/NRI quota). Deemed universities: 350–550 marks. Category cutoffs are lower for SC/ST/OBC/EWS. Exact 2026 cutoffs will be published after NEET 2026 results.
Seat allotment uses a computer-based algorithm that matches candidates' NEET ranks with their choice-filled colleges and available seats. The algorithm considers: NEET rank/score, category reservation, domicile (for state quota), choice order, and seat availability. Multiple allotment lists are published across rounds. Results are on MCC and state counseling portals.
A NEET UG college predictor uses your NEET rank, category, and state to show colleges where you have a high chance of admission based on previous year closing ranks. Enter your details in our predictor tool to get a personalized college list with probability of admission. Our predictor uses verified 3-year historical MCC and state counseling data.
MCC AIQ counseling registration fee: General/OBC — ₹1,000; SC/ST/PWD — ₹500. Security deposit: ₹10,000 (General/OBC), ₹5,000 (SC/ST). For deemed universities: ₹5,000 registration + ₹2,00,000 security deposit (all refundable). State counseling fees vary — typically ₹500–₹2,000 for registration. Always check official portal for exact fees.
If you do not report to the allotted college within the reporting deadline, your seat is cancelled. The security deposit may be partially or fully forfeited depending on the round. You may still be eligible for Mop-Up or Stray Vacancy rounds. Always inform the counseling authority if you cannot join — do not simply skip the reporting date.
For MCC AIQ: Visit mcc.nic.in → New Registration → Enter NEET roll number → Fill personal details → Upload documents → Pay fee → Complete choice filling → Lock choices. For state quota: Visit your state counseling portal → Follow similar steps. Dates are announced after NEET results. Our team provides hand-holding support through every step.
